Americana Tattoos To Try This Summer
The weather is heating up, so you know that that means the Americana tattoos are on the rise. Nothing feels quite like summer to me than the Americana aesthetic and getting it in ink form is a great way to get something both modern and nostalgic at the same time.

Creating a cool tattoo idea that’s patriotic but not cheesy and is aesthetic all at the same time can be a tough feat, but these will do the trick.
If you’re looking for more of a patriotic style than a vintage theme, here’s our guide for all you need to know about the American style tattoo.
Edgy Americana Ideas
If you need tattoo ideas, I’ve got them! This American style of tattooing is so cool, and somehow I think it’s kind of edgy, in a world where everyone wants something kind of minimal.
1. Hearts And Icons
Tattoos with different pieces like this are cool and classics in the American category.
2. Spooky Web
This web is pulling out all of the stops for to creep you out!
3. Stunning Owl
The piercing eyes on this owl is something so bold.
4. Guard Dog
Tough themes like this guard dog are iconic with Americana style of tattoos.
5. Jaguar
A spicy looking jag really gets the job done, and is some of my favorite traditional looking tattoos that are currently on trend.
6. Broken Mirror
This woman’s reflection in a broken mirror makes this one stand out from the usual female portraits. Artistic and interesting to the eye, this is a cool concept if you’re looking for something a bit more intricate.
7. A Dagger
Weapons are also a common theme in these tattoo styles, with thick lines and usually some dramatic detailing.
8. Traditional Bold Lettering
Across the chest, this is a lot to take in, but this style of lettering and bold fonts is all the Americana style is about!
9. Baby Nikes
These baby Nikes are the perfect little American look for a tattoo for your baby.
10. Smoking Skull
The skull smoking is the coolest take on the cowboy skull I’ve seen. This guy is everywhere, and there are several variations, but this is by far my favorite. He has the most character I’ve seen.
Cute Vintage American Ink Designs
I love a cute tattoo, even with an edgy and cool undertone. These have cute details or are just simply cute on their own.
11. Chameleon
The detail in color is the perfect example of how color works in this style.
12. Traditional Rose
The pink and red combination is super cute, and this makes for a perfect cute tattoo piece.
13. Rose Skull
The skull is pretty big in the traditional and Americana style, but this one emerging from a rose really makes it a whole new vibe.
14. Classic American Flag
If you’re here for something strong and American more than traditional Americana, this is your move.
15. Love Panther
Do all the wild cats feel a little aggressive for you? Try adding hearts and making her a love panther instead.
16. Rose Lady
A little easier than the skull, here’s a lady emerging from the rose too.
17. Daggers And Roses
Have you noticed a theme? Cute versions of these tattoo pieces tend to be the same themes but with something like roses are hearts to soften them up. Easy to do with just about any image you want!
18. Moth
Moths are stunning creatures, and you often find them in tattoo art. Mainly from the Wiccan crowd, but you might just find that someone gets something like this because of the beauty of the animal.
19. Girly Pirate
A feminine pirate is just what you need for your next tattoo.
20. Orange Rose
The styling of the tattoo is what makes this Americana, and that’s what makes it cool. The grungy thick lines makes something like a rose both cool and cute.
21. Black Cherries
I am truly obsessed with these black cherries.
Traditional Native Tattoos
Traditional style tattoos are usually what are referred to as Americana style, since they’re the classic tattoo style of the American culture.
22. Roaring Tiger
A tiger at the top of my list when it comes time to commit to a traditional piece.
23. Grim Reaper
The grim reaper has a cool reputation in the Americana community. It’s a little goofy but also a little dark of course.
24. Weeping Woman
A portrait of a female figure is another staple.
25. Hell Bound Ship
Pirate-like is a pretty good way to describe the aesthetic, and if you’re actually into pirates, this is the perfect piece for you.
26. Butterfly Shades
Interesting and artistic, having the butterfly cover this girl’s face adds such an interesting dynamic to the piece.
27. Chicken Playing Guitar
This guy is too fun, and nothing says America like a chicken playing guitar.
28. Chroma Dripping Panther
This panther dripping in chrome is unique and oh so
29. Fish
Here in the south where I’m from, it’s a basic skill to be able to fish. This is a perfect representation of the American lifestyle.
30. Rootin’ Tootin’
31. Rose And Dagger
We’ll close out this list with another rose and dagger combination, an American classic!
What Exactly Is The Americana Style?
We’ve touched on this a bit throughout the post, but Americana style is traditional style tattoo work and anything that draws inspiration from American culture. Usually more of a vintage or grungy feel to it, but it can really be anything!
Pulling ideas from American literature, history, or iconography can really create the Americana look and feel of your tattoo.
If you have an idea already but it feels super classic or basic, there are ways that you can change up the design to make it feel a little more edgy to fit the overall vibe.
But simply put, if it’s got an American theme to it, it already fits.
How Much Do These Hurt?
This is a broad-stroke theme of tattoos, so there isn’t a for sure answer to how much it’s going to hurt to get one.
If you have a low pain tolerance, you can make it a little easier on yourself by getting a little bit more of minimal style and placing it on a tougher area.
I try not to let my pain tolerance dictate the tattoo pieces I get. After all, pain is temporary, the tattoo is forever! But I try to help myself out and get something a little more low-key, especially since they’re all hand tattoos and I need to compensate for the sensitive area.

Americana is a classic style and vibe that you can find in art and style over the years. And it’s become the most standard vibe for tattoos.
Every summer we pull inspiration from it, and every few years it becomes a staple beyond just the month of July. It’s a whole vintage or homely aesthetic that pulls from organic roots.
A new way to wear the flag, wild west themes, or anything else that captures the vibe of American culture in any time period.
I hope you found some favorites among mine, and you’ve got that appointment scheduled ASAP!
