What Does a Cosmetic Tattoo Mean?

Cosmetic Tattoo, also called Semi-Permanent Makeup or Micropigmentation, is the process of implanting color pigment beneath the surface of the skin by means of a tiny, sterile, disposable needle to produce the appearance of cosmetic makeup or to enhance the natural features of the face.
Cosmetic Tattoo Design Definition

Is Cosmetic Tattooing the same as body tattoos?

Essentially they are the same in the essence that they both puncture the skin and deposit pigment resulting in a “permanent tattoo.”

But the method of deposit and depth of color implanted do differ. Machines used are usually different to allow for more of a shallow pigment deposit.

Cosmetic tattoos usually do not penetrate the skin as deep as body tattoos and colors used are usually more tailored to the face.

 Is Cosmetic Tattooing painful?

There is some pain involved in cosmetic tattooing but it can be controlled. The level of pain felt does depend on the individual’s pain threshold.

A topical anesthetic is used for eyebrows and eyeliners and these usually help null or soften the pain.

For lip procedures, our clients can be referred to a dentist where a complete block is used and nothing is felt!

How long does cosmetic tattooing last?

Cosmetic tattoos generally last between 1-3 years however there have been cases where cosmetic tattoos have lasted for more than 20 years. So if you are considering a cosmetic tattoo under the misconception that it’s only temporary; then think again.

 Is Cosmetic Tattooing Safe?

Most parts of the equipment used are disposable and prior to use you can view them in their original sterile packaging. With careful disposal of all of the disposable parts. Other non-disposable equipment and materials used should be sterilized by an onsite autoclave. Facilities should adhere to NSW Government health and safety regulations. It is up to the client to take care of the treated area appropriately post-treatment to ensure the area is kept sterile and clean.

  • Single Needle Tattoo – A single needle tattoo is a variation of a fine line tattoo. It is, essentially, the finest of fine line tattooing. That means that, unlike the standard use of multiple needles when tattooing, there is only one needle being used. This results in super thin, dainty, and detailed pieces.
  • Tattoo Aftercare – Most tattoo artists have their own personal set of aftercare instructions. But one piece of advice they all have in common is to touch your tattoo with clean hands only. I recommend that you listen to the verbal directions from your tattooer first, then refer to the written directions after. Also, take into consideration that washing your hands shouldn’t be a quick three-second rinse.
